Congressional Art Show
Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Since the Artistic Discovery competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated. The Congressional Art Competition is open to all high school students, with STMA students competing in the 6th District, represented by United States Congressman Tom Emmer. STMA art student Tyler Gfroerer is the winner of the MN 6th District and he will be recognized at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. at the end of June. Tyler’s artwork, a colored pencil drawing titled Ray of Color, will be displayed, along with the other winning works from around the country, for one year at the U.S. Capitol.
